Mother’s Day Recap – A month late!

June 10, 2016

Like many things, I never truly appreciated the significance of Mother’s Day until I became a mom. I celebrated my first Mother’s Day last year, but I have to admit I was still in the haze of the first few newborn months. I don’t think I was really present and definitely don’t remember much of the day (probably because we were still severely sleep deprived!). This year, however, was different.

This year we were lucky enough to spend the day with most of our family for a few reasons. Of course it was Mother’s Day, but Everett was also dedicated at our church that morning. My parents flew in from the East Coast to be part of the celebration, which was a special treat since I haven’t been able to spend Mother’s Day with my mom in years. Jeff’s family lives in Denver, so they all joined us in addition to both of his grandmothers, who are our only grandparents left and we treasure special days like this together.

After church, we hosted brunch at our house for our intimate family gathering of 14. 😉 It was a group effort though to pull everything together and we were able to relax and enjoy a lovely afternoon celebrating all the most important women in our lives. To help celebrate, I picked out a few small gifts for all the women, which included both of our moms, 2 grandmothers, 2 sisters and 1 aunt. Some gifts were easy to pull together, but a few took a bit of extra creativity.

Bloody Mary Kit

My sister loves a good Bloody Mary. Especially a spicy Bloody Mary. There’s an amazing spice shop that I like to frequent in town, Savory Spice Shop, and they make a spicy Bloody Mary mix infused with pickled habanero peppers. Incredible. A proper Bloody isn’t complete without a splash of vodka, so I brought it all together with a tag I found here. This would also be a great idea for an easy Father’s Day gift!

STFD - Gardening Kit

And for my sister-in-law, who is a mommy-to-be in a few months, we put together a little gardening gift for her. She moved from a condo into a house last year and as any homeowner can attest to — there’s always yard work and gardening to be done! I included a set of gardening gloves and these really cute gardening tools that I found at Target (here) and a few seed packets to get an herb garden started. I used an extra mason jar I had sitting around and some twine to package it all together — super easy!

Here’s to another year of celebrating all of the fantastic women in our lives!
